Interpreting by definition means to find or establish the meaning or significance of something. Interpreting usually takes place in person or over the phone and is engaged between individuals or groups. We currently cater 150 different languages and dialects which allows us to help you communicate what you want. Not only do we provide numerous languages for your services, but we also take gender sensitivity into consideration.
There are also elements that need to be taken into consideration when using the services of an interpreter,
- Interpreting may take more than twice as long as an ordinary interchange. This is due to interpreters having to listen and relay long explanatory phrases.
- The importance of gender, ethnicity, language, dialect or religion can be crucial. It may be inappropriate or uncomfortable for both parties, e.g. a male interpreter attending a female natured appointment.
- Remember to try and speak in short units of speech. Long winded sentences, complex terminology and colloquialisms can create difficulty and misinterpretation.
- It's acceptable to speak to the patient face to face, without looking at the interpreter.
